FAQ

Registered Massage Therapy FAQs

What's the difference between an RMT and a regular massage therapist?+

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a licensed healthcare professional with formal training, certification, and standards set by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).

At Viva Wellness & Rehab, our therapists are licensed RMTs. They can provide direct insurance billing, assess pain and injury concerns, and build treatment plans for rehabilitation and long-term wellness.

Unlike relaxation-only massage, RMT care is therapeutic and can address concerns like neck and back pain, sports injuries, muscle tension, and chronic pain.

Can I use my insurance for RMT massage therapy at Viva Wellness?+

Yes. We offer direct billing for most insurance providers, including many employer and individual extended health plans, motor vehicle accident (MVA) claims, and WSIB workplace injury coverage.

We currently do not offer direct billing for Green Shield and Blue Cross. In those cases, you can pay first and submit reimbursement to your insurer.

Please review your plan details before your visit to confirm your exact coverage.

Should I choose Deep Tissue Massage or Swedish Massage?+

Swedish massage is ideal for first-time clients, relaxation, stress relief, circulation support, and mild tension. A 60-minute session is $120.

Deep tissue massage is better for chronic pain, muscle knots, sports recovery, and deeper tension from posture-related strain. A 60-minute session is $125.

During your first visit, your RMT will assess your needs and may combine techniques to create a treatment that matches your comfort and goals.

How far in advance should I book, and what is your cancellation policy?+

We recommend booking 24 to 48 hours in advance, especially for evenings and weekends. First-time clients often benefit from a 60- or 75-minute session.

A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required for cancellation or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged the full treatment fee.

To manage bookings, call 647-352-8688 or use our online booking system.

Is prenatal and postnatal massage therapy safe, and what are the benefits?+

Yes. Our RMTs are trained in prenatal and postnatal care and use side-lying techniques with supportive positioning to prioritize comfort and safety.

Prenatal massage may help reduce back pain, sciatica, swelling, stress, and sleep disruption during pregnancy. It is generally recommended after the first trimester (12 weeks).

Postnatal massage supports recovery after delivery, including muscle tension relief, posture support, stress reduction, and improved circulation and lymphatic drainage, once approved by your healthcare provider.
